Pleasant surprise
I had my doubts. Many doubts in fact. Visions of a predictable plot (Rocky for the billionth time except with a panda instead of a hard to understand boxer) and semi creative scenes ran through my brain. I figured 'what the heck, I'll go n see it with my friends and maybe even have fun mocking the film a little later.'
But, I have to admit, no I want to admit, I zen-glen, enjoyed....wait for it....Kung Fu Panda!
I was really impressed in fact. The main reason the film is so entertaining is the cast of great voice over talent. Jack Black is a perfect match as the bumbling panda, Dustin Hoffman is quite impressive as the old wise teacher (complete with the Yoda-like accent), Angelina Jolie is a tiger and my fave was Lucy Liu as a smart-ass Viper snake (Nuff said!).
The animation from the Dream Works artists is also great. Clever scenes including well placed slow and fast motion edits, as well as fun action fight sequences, make the 2 hours fly by.
The soundtrack is done, as are many Dream Work movies, by Hanz Zimmer. He went to China to conduct the score with a all Chinese symphony, There are also songs by Jack Black, Timbaland, and of course the classic Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Withers.
The worst thing this animation film has for it is the endless amount of bad pun movie reveiw titles, like "It's Fu-bulaus!", "2 paws up!", and "Kunggrats, it's a hit!" Sadly, these are all actual review titles I saw.
Peace.
