zen and the art of blogging
I spy with a sigh
I hate being deceived....led on....bamboozled (had to use that great term!). Why can't some companies simply tell the consumer what's up from the get go?
I have a old laptop and the security program that came with it expired about 2 months ago. I was lazy and didn't renew it either. Bad decision.
2 days ago I get a warning flashing on my screen basically telling me "Your computer is infected with spyware!" "We recommend you update Windows software to fix this"!. I was a bit frazzled to put it nicely. I looked online to see what Windows software was available and saw a couple. 1 wanted $50 upfront, the other said download free. Guess which one I chose!?
The software loaded fine and even did a good scan of my laptop files. It found 10 'high risk' files. But what happens when I go to delete them? I get a message saying in not so many words "Ohhh you want to delete these? ...Oh well we need ya to buy the rest of the software then!". Unbelievable.
A friend suggested Spy-Bot, and I knew it was a popular program, so I downlaoded that...it didn't even get past the initial set up. Just stalled.....and stalled. Oh my zen was fading fast now.
Finally after a hr. long thorough search of different products I found a very good anti-spyware software program called AnVira, it took almost 2 hrs. to do the scan, but it found, and deleted about 12 bad virus files, and even warns me now when it finds another. What I will go through for a free service eh?
Peace
